US Together: UST
Welcome to the UST Middle School page! It is my pleasure to share our new program with you. My name is Gregory Aiello, and I am the Principal of the middle school division. In today's newsletter, you will get the first look through a window into the world in the Middle School Building. Whether this is your first time dropping into our page, a parent of one of our students, or a teacher researching our program for employment, we are happy that you can join us for this ongoing newsletter!
In our first publication, I caught up with Ms. Emma Hawes. Ms. Hawes is the Middle School Humanities Teacher, and therefore is responsible for both English Language Arts and Social Studies. Here's a look at the interview:
At UST, we go beyond learning and into the development of the whole child. Recently, the school hosted Japanese Culture Day, and it was a huge success in building a connection with Japan through cultural experiences and activities. Students experienced a lesson in calligraphy, learned how to fold paper cranes, discovered the art of paper cutting art, and made some delicious mochi. Students also made presentations about the UN's Sustainable Development Goals as part of an ongoing project connected with their Japanese Language class; and very impressively translated each presentation from Japanese to English!
This has been just the first look into our program, and there will be more postings like these to come. You can expect to meet more of our teachers and get a snapshot into our classrooms. Next time, we will meet our STEM Teacher,
Mr. Scott Hernalsteen, and later on this month we will cover more topics like Power Hour, our gym, and the electives.
Stay tuned! See you next time!
